‘Learning to Live for God’
Hampton Baptist Church started in 1992 with help from Teddington Baptist Church. We are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the London Baptist Association, its local expression the Thames Valley District and Churches Together around Hampton.
In 2019 we joined together with Hampton Methodist Church in Percy Road, Hampton to become Hampton Mission Partnership where we worship alongside and together.
Whilst our ethos and some beliefs and customs may differ, we believe we are all part of God’s family, ordinary people with a desire to live our lives for him. We believe that it is possible to know God personally and to have a relationship with him.
We certainly haven’t ‘arrived’ and recognise that the process of learning to live for God continues for the whole of our lives. Prayer and Bible study are key elements of this journey. We understand church to mean a group of people committed to God, one another and to the wider community in which we live.
‘Love one another’
‘A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.’
These words of Jesus given to his first disciples and recorded by John are key to our understanding of how Jesus’ followers should live. We are to love.
Beyond this Jesus didn’t give his disciples much to go on for living as his followers. We are left to work it out with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Bible. This was deliberate, God wants us to live in relationship with him not by rules. Rules destroy, relationships build.
Sunday worship with Hampton Baptists, as part of Hampton Mission Partnership, is both contemporary and informal and we encourage everyone to contribute. We hope that visitors feel at home with us since we see hospitality as a vital part of our worship.
The Church (HBC) was planted by Teddington Baptist Church in 1992 and worshipped in Bethany Chapel, Beards Hill, Hampton. God blessed us and led us on a journey to a point where in 2017 when our minister, Steve Jenkins, was called to another church we were challenged by Him to seek to partner with a fellowship which shared our commitment to His work and the building of His kingdom in Hampton. In this way we would be able to continue to the mission which had inspired our move to Hampton.
In 2019 we joined with Hampton Methodist Church to form the Hampton Mission Partnership (HMP) whilst remaining in membership with Baptists Together, the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Although our ethos and some practises may differ we believe that within HMP we are all part of God’s family. We are ordinary people who desire to live our lives for Him and we believe that it is possible to know God personally and to have a relationship with Him.
